About
Communication is the foundation of human interaction. The Center for Hearing and Speech is dedicated to providing deaf children with the vital services they need to succeed in a speaking world. Each day at the Center brings progress, and it is that progress that keeps us firmly committed to our mission to enable children with hearing impairments to reach their full potential by teaching them listening, speaking and literacy skills. What began in 1947 as a small school on Austin Street is now the only full-service resource in Greater Houston to identify hearing loss in children and address their health, educational and emotional needs. The Center’s Audiology Clinic, Speech-Language Pathology Clinic and Melinda Webb School combine the latest technology, professional expertise and compassionate care in order to give deaf children the same opportunities as their hearing peers. Services are offered on a sliding scale to ensure access to all.
