SEARCH Homeless Services was founded in 1989 by a group of concerned citizens and volunteers who responded to the growing number of men, women, and children living on the streets of Houston. The original program offered meals, showers, laundry services, and mail pick-up. Today, SEARCH is one of the leading institutions in greater Houston helping people move from the streets into jobs and safe, stable housing. In Fiscal Year 2013, SEARCH served 8,039 men, women, and children in our community. Many of our clients require long-term support and a combination of housing, case management, mental and physical health care, all of which they can access through SEARCH and its partner agencies. Taking a client-centered approach, SEARCH professionals "meet people where they are." Case managers are taught and implement evidence-based practices depending on the individual program and client needs. Non-confrontational counseling approaches demonstrate respect for the individual and attempt to increase awareness of behavior by helping clients think differently about their actions and consider what can be gained through change.Organization Mission Statements and About Us information are provided by GuideStar.
